As a family owned and operated business, Rick's Gun and Pawn in Foley and Loxley, AL, specializes in Guns, Camo Surplus, and Pool Cue's, in addition to the items normally found in a pawnshop. We are authorized dealers for Glock, Springfield Armory and Kimber firearms, as well as having a good supply of used firearms.

Our Story

The year was 1972 and Richard Lowell was operating a small motel on US Hwy 90 West of Loxley.  Interstate 10 was soon to open from Loxley to Spanish Fort.  Richard knew this would be the end of the motel business.  His older brother had been in the pawn business in East Brewton for two years and it was suggested that Richard give it a try.  In April of 1972 Richard became a pawnbroker when he opened in a building that had been his parent’s café.  As with any new business times were hard and Richard had to work some evening jobs to make ends meet.  By 1980 the business had grown some and it was moved into the Town of Loxley in a building across from the school. This was when the name was changed to Rick’s Gun and Pawn and people began calling Richard, “Rick”.  In 1982 he relocated to the present site at the corner of Ala 59 and Relham Ave.  With the business growing it was decided in 1985 to open a second location in Foley.  At this time, his oldest son, Roger, joined the business to operate the Loxley store.  With more growth his second oldest son, Ronnie, came on board in 1988 followed by third son, Brian, in 1991.  Rick’s daughter, Kristina, had been working a little bit part time so it was only natural for her to go full time when Ronnie passed away in 2001.  In 2012 it was decided that the Loxley store required the presence of two people full time so Rick’s granddaughter, Stephanie, joined her father, and her aunt and uncles, in the business.

The business built a new building in 1998 for the Foley location and has recently done major renovation on the Loxley building.  Rick attributes the business’ success to a simple principle – Treat people the way you want to be treated.

A lot of folks have asked Rick when he is going to retire and turn it over to the “young’uns”.   Someday, he says, just not yet (wink).
